Illegal Accessories for your CarWhat fun is a car if you can't accessorize it? Air fresheners and fuzzy dice are just the beginning; teens these days are always looking for new, original additions to their ride. But not all car accessories are allowed on the roads. Also, some accessories will affect your insurance policy and possibly your warranty coverage. Here are a few that you should watch out for: DVD players: DVD players are great for road trips and your friends will love them. But, there are laws to make sure they don't become a distraction to the driver. A DVD player cannot be placed where the driver can see it. Check you state laws about placement. Tinted windows: The degree of window-tinting that is allowed by the law varies from state to state because of the visibility problems it causes at night and in harsh weather. Before having your windows done, make sure it's legal! Fuzzy dice: This is a popular item to hang from your rearview mirror and they seem harmless, but be careful: state laws specify how large your fuzzy dice can be so that they don't dangerously block your vision. Neon lights: These are the colorful tube-like lights that are sometimes installed on the front, side, or rear undercarriage of a vehicle. They are illegal in most states because of the non-compliance of colors and placement. Stay away from devices that are distracting, affect your vision, or affect the vision of others. Add-on accessories can be a lot of fun, just make sure they comply with state laws! Factoid
