Know Your Laws: Texting While DrivingWashington and New Jersey are the only states that have an official ban on text messaging while driving for all ages, but more states are drafting laws as we speak. 17 States now have special cell phone bans for novice drivers, and many Graduated Driver License Programs - the teen licenses that are restricted until certain ages - are also banning texting while driving. Here are some examples:
It is important to know your state's Graduated Driver License laws and restrictions on electronic devices. The Governors Highway Safety Association publishes a thorough description of each state's laws at www.statehighwaysafety.org. Texting is a dominant mode of communication in youth culture across the country, and our state legislations are working hard to make sure this habit doesn't affect the safety of our roads. Knowing your laws will keep you out of trouble and will benefit everyone's safety. Focus on the road while you are driving and talk to your peers once you've arrived. Factoid
