Nick Hogan and the Tragic Consequences of Reckless Driving

On August 26, 2007, the dangers of street racing became much too real for Nick Hogan - best known by his appearances as Hulk Hogan's son on Hogan Knows Best - and three of the members of the pit crew for his drifting team.

The men were driving in Hulk Hogan's Toyota Supra and Dodge Viper. Nick was driving the Supra in the outside lane. The car fishtailed and spun across the road, crashing into the median and a tree. Both Nick and his passenger John Graziano were flown to St. Petersburg to receive medical care.

Graziano was not wearing a seatbelt. The head and brain injuries that he suffered were very serious and he has been in a coma for months. He was moved in November from the St. Petersburg hospital to the VA Hospital in Tampa, and he remains in a vegetative state.

It is unclear how fast they were driving, but Barry Lawrence, the passenger of the Viper, said that the Supra was going "at or near 100 miles per hour." The police report says that they were drag racing, but that the drag racing was not the direct cause of the accident.

In November, Nick Hogan was arrested and charged with felony reckless driving involving serious bodily injury, use of a motor vehicle in commission of a felony, and underage drinking.

This tragic incident sheds light on the dangers of reckless driving. Late-night speeding and thrill seeking is dangerous and can cost lives.

Factoid
Did you know that there are 3 Interstate Highways in Hawaii? Could there be a tunnel that they haven't told us about? An interstate highway doesn't actually have to cross state lines, they just have to be funded by the federal government and built with the support of the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956.
Maintenance Tip
Do yourself a favor and save some room in your trunk for the following items. They could turn a potential trip-wrecker into nothing more than an unexpected pit stop:
  • Screwdrivers and wrenches
  • Jumper cables
  • A jack and tire iron
  • A can of "Fix-a-Flat"
  • Water for both the radiator and yourself
  • Emergency flares and reflectors
  • Gloves
  • Blanket and towel
  • Flashlight
