Drive-Thru Nation - Unusual Establishments!

The drive-thru fast food restaurant is a constant on the American landscape, but did you know that you could get a lot more than just a hamburger from a drive-thru window?

  • Drive-through zoos! The Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach Florida is a drive-thru zoo with over 1,000 animals along the 5-mile drive-thru. It's kind of like Jurassic Park without any risk of being eaten by a dinosaur.
  • At Tunnel of Love in Las Vegas, you can say your vows without even getting out of your car. In fact, the marriage capital of the country has a number of drive-thru marriage chapels.
  • Hair For Kids Salon has a drive-thru bangs trim. But if you don't come to a full and complete stop, your haircut could come out crooked.
  • Starbucks and other coffee houses have jumped into the drive-thru market. Your neighborhood barista can have your Grande-Add-shot-Nonfat-Caramel-Macchiato at a pick-up window for you.
  • Now it may seem like a just-plain bad idea, but there are a number of states that allow drive-thru liquor stores. Texas has the most drive-thru liquor stores as well as a lot of state patrol officers keeping their eyes on those who patronize them.

From dry-cleaning and every day errands to once-in-a-lifetime experiences, there doesn't seem like much of a limit on what we can manage to get at a pick-up counter!

Factoid
Did you know that there are 3 Interstate Highways in Hawaii? Could there be a tunnel that they haven't told us about? An interstate highway doesn't actually have to cross state lines, they just have to be funded by the federal government and built with the support of the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956.
Maintenance Tip
Do yourself a favor and save some room in your trunk for the following items. They could turn a potential trip-wrecker into nothing more than an unexpected pit stop:
  • Screwdrivers and wrenches
  • Jumper cables
  • A jack and tire iron
  • A can of "Fix-a-Flat"
  • Water for both the radiator and yourself
  • Emergency flares and reflectors
  • Gloves
  • Blanket and towel
  • Flashlight
