Yes. Our online Driver's Education course is DMV-approved and meets all the requirements needed for home schooled students to obtain their Virginia Learner's Permit.

The course works with any standard browser like IE or Netscape. There is no requirement of any software installation. Other than the possibility of upgrading your Flash program, there is no requirement of any software installation.
The course was developed so that any system with internet access can display the online course. If you are having difficulties displaying the course, contact our customer support group at 1-800-990-2814.
If you are using AOL as your Internet service provider, you will have activity requirements while online. During some of the longer sections requiring more minutes online, there is a chance AOL will knock you offline unless you remain interactive with AOL. Do not leave the screen alone for any great length of time.

Our online Driver's Ed course is for all approved home school students between the ages of 15 ½ and 19. The student must currently be enrolled in a home-schooled program approved by your school division superintendent.
To take our online course, you simply register by clicking the "Signup" button on our website. However, you must apply to the DMV in order to teach the in-car portion. To apply for authorization to teach the in-car portion, complete a Home-Schooled In-Car Driver Education Parental Authorization Application (HS-1).
Attach a letter from the school division superintendent or designee acknowledging that the child is home-schooled OR a copy of notification to the school division superintendent or designee of your intent to home-school the child, enclose the original proof of completion of the classroom portion of the Driver Education program, and mail to:

A separate HS-1 form, letter and proof of completion must be submitted for each child.

In order to apply for your learner's permit in the state of Virginia you must be at least 15 years and 6 months old. If you are under the age of 19 you must present:
- a completion certificate from an approved driver education course
- one proof of identity,
- one proof of your social security number
- one proof of legal presence
- one proof of Virginia residency.
When you apply for your permit you will also apply for your driver's license and pay both application fees.
If you are under the age of 18, you must have your parents' or guardians' signatures on your learner's permit and/or driver's license application.
Upon completion of this course, a certificate will be awarded with verification of your completion.
You will be required to take:
- a vision screening
- a two-part knowledge exam.
- The two-part knowledge exam is given in English or Spanish on a computer and tests your knowledge of traffic signs, motor vehicle laws and safe driving techniques.
- All ten traffic sign questions in Part One must be answered correctly before you can take the 25-question general knowledge exam in Part Two.
- You must score at least 80% on these questions to pass Part Two.
- The exam may be taken only once per business day.
If you are under age 18, by law you must wait a full 15 days before you can retake the exam. For example, if you fail the test on January 1, the earliest you would be eligible to take the test again is January 17.

As the price changes from time to time, you'll need to check with the DMV for the exact price.
If you are under the age of 19 you must hold your learner's permit for at least 9 months before you can obtain your driver's license. If you are over the age of 19 you must hold your learner's permit for at least 30 days before you can obtain your license unless you present proof that you completed a state-approved driver education program.

In the state of Virginia you apply for your driver's license at the same time that you apply for your learner's permit. If you are under the age of 18 your parent or guardian must sign your application.
To apply for a driver's license, you must be at least 16 years and 3 months old and have:
- Had a learner's permit for at least 6 months
- Passed the DMV road test.
When you apply for a learner's permit or a driver's license, you must show:
- proof of legal presence (legal presence means that a person is either a U.S. citizen or is legally authorized to be in the United States)
- proof of Virginia residency.
- your social security number (if you have been issued one).
All documents must be originals and will be subject to verification.
You will be required to take:
- a vision screening
- a two-part knowledge exam
- A road skills test
The road skills test is offered at all DMV customer service centers except the Springfield Mall and Fair Oaks Mall locations.
