If you print out a copy of our Parent-Teen Driving Contract, you can start laying down ground rules for your son or daughter right away! It enables you and your teenager to sit down and have an open discussion about what you both feel is fair when it comes to them driving. If you put everything in writing, there can be no excuses if rules are broken - no matter which of you is doing the rule-breaking!
Included in the contract are subjects such as:
- Areas designated as "off-limits"
- Who is permitted to drive the car
- Keeping the car in good shape
- Limits on the number of passengers
You'll both be able to rest easier if you've come to an agreement on all aspects of their driving. If you respect each other's wishes and stay true to your word, you'll eliminate the issues that come with rules that haven't been brought up. Your son or daughter will drive more safely if they are held accountable for their actions, and you'll feel a lot better if you've had an honest dialogue with them.
