How To Get Your License in California
1. Complete I DRIVE SAFELY's Online Driver Education course
- Obtain certificate of completion
2. Apply for your Instruction Permit
- Minimum age: 15 years, 6 months
- Must have completed driver education or driver education and driver training
- Must pass a written test and a vision exam
3. Apply for your Driver's License
- Minimum age: 16 years
- Must have held your instruction permit for at least 6 months before applying for a driver's license
- Must have completed at least 6 hours of professional driver training
- Must have completed at least 50 hours of behind-the-wheel practice, 10 of which must be at night
- Must provide proof of insurance
