It's simple: As soon as you sign up, you can begin taking lessons. The information is broken up into 8 chapters. After you complete each chapter, you'll be given a 10-question, multiple-choice quiz. At the end of the 30-hour course, you will be given a 50-question final exam. Pass with an 80% (40/50 questions), and you're done!
Anyone who is under 18, and wants to get a California driver license.
In order to take Driver's Ed, you must be at least 15 1/2.
That's entirely up to you! The course is a state-mandated 30 hours long, but with an online course, you decide when you're going to study. Complete the chapters one at a time, or all at once!
There are 50 multiple-choice questions.
In order to pass, you must get 40 of the 50 multiple-choice questions correct (80%). If you don't pass on the first try, you are allowed unlimited free retakes until you do.
Not to worry! You're allowed to take the final exam again and again, as many times as it takes to pass — for free!

Looking to get your driver's permit? Follow the steps on this handy checklist, and you'll be driving in no time!
- AGE: You must be between 15 1/2 and 18 years old to apply for your permit.
- APPLICATION: Fill out the DL 44 form that's available at your local DMV office. (Copies are not accepted, must be original).
- SIGNATURES: Because you are a minor, you'll need to get your parent or legal guardian's signature on the DL 44 before turning it in.
- VISIT THE DMV: To apply for your permit you have to go down to the DMV in person (If you want to avoid the long lines, make an appointment online!).
- DRIVER'S ED: If you've already completed Driver's Ed, bring your Certificate of Completion with you.
- IDENTIFICATION: When you're at the DMV, they will take your photo and your thumbprint.
- OTHER INFO: Be sure you have your Social Security Number, Birth Certificate, and legal citizen status paperwork.
- PAYMENT: You will have to pay an application fee, which entitles you to three exams (of any kind) over the course of a year.
- VISION EXAM: Whether you wear glasses, contacts, or your eyes are fine without, you'll have to pass a vision test. 20/40 vision is the DMV's standard requirement.
- WRITTEN EXAM: You will also be tested on traffic laws and signs. You're granted three chances to pass this test.
If you are under 18 years of age you do. All minors must have their parent(s)' or guardian(s)' signatures on the application form DL 44.

As the price changes from time to time, you'll need to check with the DMV for the exact price. Please remember - this fee entitles you to three exams of any type within a year's time including both the instruction permit and the driver license. If all the requirements are not met within the 12-month period, the application is void and all steps must be re-completed.

If your application expires before you have held your provisional instruction permit for six months, you must return to the DMV and re-start the process with a new application. You are required to repay the application fee and fulfill all requirements. Take your instruction permit with you to the DMV to gain credit for the time you have held your instruction permit and receive cumulative credit towards your subsequent provisional instruction permit to meet the six-month requirement before taking your driving test.
You must have held it for a minimum of 6 months time to be eligible for a license.
You need to pay a fee to a DMV office in order to replace a lost or stolen permit/license. Please check with the DMV for the exact costs of the fee.

To apply for a driver's license, you must have:
- Had a learner's permit for at least 6 months
- Passed Behind-The-Wheel Instructions
- Driven the required 50 hours (10 at night)
- Passed the DMV road test
If you are under 18 years of age you need your parents' or guardians' signatures on the application form DL 44.
If you haven't yet turned 18, but you'd like to graduate from permit to full-fledged license, here's everything you need to do:
- AGE: You must be at least 16 years old.
- PERMIT REQUIREMENTS: You must have driven with a permit for at least 6 months.
- SCHOOL: You must have completed your driver education program.
- BEHIND THE WHEEL: You must have completed 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) training with a professional trainer, and an additional 50 hours with an adult 25 or over (the adult must have a valid California driver license, and attest to the 50 hours of BTW practice. In addition, 10 of the 50 hours must have taken place at night).
- DRIVING TEST:
- Make an appointment with the DMV
- Prove that your vehicle is properly insured (provide insurance card, bond number, or other official document with coverage dates).
- ONCE YOU PASS: After you pass the driving test, you will be issued a 60-day temporary license, while your official driver license is processed. Be sure to double check your address and other contact information with the DMV.
If you're already older than 18 and you'd like to get your driver's license, here's everything you need to do:
- GO TO THE DMV: Make an appointment, it will save you time.
- APPLICATION: Fill out the DL 44 form (no copies, must be original).
- IDENTIFICATION: Provide the following: Thumbprint, picture, Social Security Number, Birth Certificate (or other valid evidence of birth), and Citizenship paperwork if necessary.
- PAYMENT: The application fee is $28.
- VISION EXAM: Whether you wear glasses, contacts, or your eyes are fine without, you'll have to pass a vision test. 20/40 vision is the DMV's standard requirement.
WRITTEN EXAM: You will also be tested on traffic laws and signs. You're granted three chances to pass this test.

Your license will be mailed to you within 60 days after passing your road test.
Since your parent/guardian is financially responsible for you until your 18th birthday, he/she has a right to have your license taken away.
